Materials
Unpitched rhythm instruments
Optional: stuffed animals or photographs of a rabbit, dolphin, starfish and turtle
Instructions
Sit in a circle. As you listen to this song, pass around a stuffed animal to the steady beat. If desired, change the animal with the lyrics (rabbit, turtle, starfish, dolphin).
What speed of music is played for the turtle? (slow)
What speed of music is played for the rabbit? (fast)
What speed of music is played for the starfish? (slow)
What speed of music is played for the dolphin? (fast)
Stand in a circle. This time, move your body to the steady beat as we move around the circle.
How should we move for the turtle's music? (crawl or walk slowly)
How should we move for the rabbit's music? (jump or jog)
How should we move for the starfish's music? (walk slowly or stretch slowly)
How should we move for the dolphin's music? (swim, jump or jog)
Choose a rhythm instrument to keep the steady beat. This time, sing the song and keep a steady beat on your instrument.
Review how to play each rhythm instrument correctly.
Reminder: play your instrument gently, even at the fast tempo.
Perform by dividing into two groups: the Active Actors and the Rhythm Band. Sing the song while moving or playing an instrument to the steady beat. The actors can be dressed up with photo booth props, masks, or costumes. If time permits, switch groups and perform again.
